Personality:

Valentine is and has been many things over his life thus far, but no one can say he's boring, or exactly law-abiding. To call him a mere thief would be underestimating his wide net of connections as well as his eye for spotting profitable ventures before his competition. This has earned him his fair share of enemies and rivals, though he tries to be careful who he risks pissing off or whose territory he dares to move in on. Affectionately called a "gay goth crime wizard" by Backstrom, there is a cunning about Valentine that hints he could make more of a reputation for himself if he wanted to -- or could put his skills to lawful use, considering how often he assists Backstrom and the Special Crimes Unit with cases.

Seemingly a perpetual flirt and out to enjoy all aspects of being an attractive twenty-something, there is much to Valentine that he lets few people ever glimpse. His youth is full of trauma and close calls with death, having grown up on the streets to a then-prostitute mother. For a time he turned tricks himself, something he bears no shame over, not that a person is likely to catch him being ashamed of anything in his life, including his body. On that note, he is also not the least bit shy about his sexuality; he's not the sort to throw it in anyone's face, but he doesn't downplay it to avoid harming anyone's "delicate sensibilities" either. It's simply another aspect of him, no more or less than any other parts of his personality. Though he can be very light-hearted and fast with a joke, Valentine is protective of those he truly cares about, even if he might cover up caring with sarcasm and snark. There are very very few he lets get that close (or that he allows himself to get that close to) and for the most part he prefers to keep relationships superficial. The way he sees it, life has done enough damage to him and he's not interested in letting anyone get close enough to hurt him further.
